Saving Files

Each day and more often when you've done a lot of work you don't want to lose, save your files to:

bulletC:\Firstname Lastname - first location where you should be working
bulletMy Documents - Samba Drive (H:) - Where I will grade your files
bullet3 1/2 Floppy Drive (A:), email, Thumb disk, or another backup directory

At end of day to copy files from C:\Firstname Lastname to My Documents, and another location.

  1. Click Start, My Documents, in the address box type C:\Firstname Lastname (your own name)
  2. Right-click on the folder you want to save in another place
  3. Choose Copy

  1. In Address box, select down arrow and go to My Documents
  2. Right-click white space on right, choose Paste
  3. In Address box, select down arrow and 3 ½ Floppy (A:)
  4. Right-click white space on right, choose Paste

  1. If you already have a copy on the destination, the Confirm File Replace dialog box will display. Make sure that you are copying your latest work and that you won't replace a file you worked on later with one you haven't completed.
  2. Click Yes if you want to replace the file.
  3. Click No if the file you're copying is the older version.

This Confirm box is OK. Notice that an old file (Oct 17) will be replaced by a newer file (Oct 30).

Note: In Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, you can have the document open and choose File, Save As and in the Save in drop down list, you can choose your 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) and your My Documents area.
