 | Your daily emails from the whiteboard will form the foundation of your
professional email style which will reflect on you for the rest of your
life. These are not text messages -- think of these as practicing
communications with your future teachers, bosses, customers, and work
colleagues. |
 | Read the whiteboard first thing and do the assignment before you start
any other work. |
 | It will say optional if it is optional. All other assignments are
required. You lose 20 minute points if you don't do required whiteboards. |
 | First put your answer in Word so you can catch any errors. Then copy and
paste to your email program. |
 | All whiteboard emails need a subject, first and last name, and correct
spelling, grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences unless the
instructions are different. I will grade whiteboards based on content and
these criteria. |
 | The whiteboard is used to communicate with you, get feedback, and test
your computer skills such as email and using Word as a tool to catch errors. |
Test yourself:
How many minute points do you get off if you don't do the whiteboard?

 | You receive 90 minute points each day. |
 | You can earn minute points outside of class time (at lunch, before
school, after school). Just tell Mr. Winter when to start the timer. |
 | Hidden prizes can be redeemed for minute points or candy. I assume you
want minute points unless you say you want candy. |
 | If you do not do the whiteboard, you lose 20 minute points. |
 | If you are absent and excused, you lose the 90 minute points. If you
send in the whiteboard outside of class time, you get 20 minute points back. |
 | Your first unexcused tardy is double the number of minutes late. For the
second and rest of your unexcused tardies you lose 90 minute points. |
 | An unexcused absence counts double -- you lose 180 minute points. Make
sure your parents call in your absences to the office. |
 | If you are not accomplishing your work or are disrupting other students
or me, minute points will be deducted. |
Test yourself:
How many minute points do you get off for your second unexcused tardy?

 | Use the sign out sheet. Sign your name, date, time and other requested
information. |
 | Take a printed hall pass and throw it away when finished. |
 | Put your return time in when you come back. |
 | Do not disturb other classmates during your break. |
 | No more than 5 minutes total. |
 | Only one break per 90 minute class period (including going to the restroom
or a drink). |
 | Only one person out of room at a time. |
 | If you do not wish to follow these procedures, you may stay in the class
the whole period. |
 | If you're behind, limit your breaks
to as few in number and as short as possible. |
Test yourself:
How many breaks?

 | I may need to change your seat even if you are doing well. Do not take
this as a punishment, someone else may need to move, I need to accommodate
testing, specific software is installed on some, but not all computers in the
room, or I need to make a change for other reasons. |
 | Do not change seats after you have an assigned seat unless you have
my permission. Please limit your change requests. My organization for
grades, assignments, sub plans depends on your seat number. |
 | If you are disruptive or not doing well, I may change your seating at any
time to help you and those in the class be more productive. |
Test yourself:
In other words, I will change your seat to punish you.

 | Look at the whiteboard every day. Do the assignment there if it is not
optional. |
 | Before you start each chapter, check the Web site for notes or
corrections. Look on the Class Page and click the link for notes and errors. Also, check especially for changes or if you think there are
missing files. Your grade will depend on your ability to use these notes. |
 | Work on chapter assignments in order. You will not get credit after any
skipped assignments. You may get marked down significantly if you skip part of
a chapter. For example, if you don't do ChapterNotes/Objectives, the highest score you get
for a chapter could be 75 points out of 100. However, if you do more than the
required 10 chapter notes for each chapter, you get BONUS points. Hooray.
I've had students score 112 or even more on some of the chapters. Especially
in Office. |
Test yourself:
What is the highest score you can get if you do not do ChapterNotes?

 | If you want to change assignments or the order you do the assignments for
any reason, you need to let Mr. Winter know. |
 | For Office 1, Office 2, and the Internet class:
 | Project (read the chapter and do the numbered steps as you go) |
 | Chapter Notes (should be done at same time project is). 10 required
for each chapter. Extra credit if you do more. |
 | Apply Your Knowledge (generally, you open an existing file and make
changes). If you do not remember the steps, look back in the chapter. |
 | Lab 1 (generally, you create another file similar to the project, but
with less instruction). If you do not remember the steps, look back in the
chapter. |
 | Personal Assignment (see below). |
 | Chapter Test (Internet) |
|
 | For Flash
and Dreamweaver:
 | 2-6 lessons per chapter. This is like the Project above. |
 | Chapter Notes. 10 required for each chapter. Extra credit if you do
more. |
 | Skills Review. This is like Lab 1 above. |
 | Project Builder 1. This is a project you are working on that sometimes
continues for multiple chapters. There are less steps than in the chapter or
in the skills review. |
 | Personal Assignment (see below). |
|
 | For Game Development:
 | There is a game you are working on in each of the chapters. |
 | Chapter Notes -- you need to create on your own. |
 | Personal Assignment (see below). |
|
 | As you get the assignments done, save them with the proper name and in the
3 locations:
 | Filename: Class-Chapter-QuarterBlock-LastnameFI-AssignmentName |
 | Locations: C:\Firstname Lastname, My Documents which is also Samba
Drive (H:), 3 1/2 Floppy Drive (A:) or
e-mail yourself a copy. |
|
 | As you complete each assignment, verify the filename and check off the
assignment in your Goals&Effort spreadsheet. |
Test yourself:
Where do you check off the work you do after each document?
| Goals and Effort Workbook | | In the check off
folder | | On the board | | On your printed checklist |
 | Save all your files and copy any latest work on (for
instructions, click here):
 | C:\Firstname Lastname Folder. |
 | Samba Drive (H:). This is now also My Documents and where I'll grade your work. |
 | 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), jump drive, or e-mail yourself a document. |
|
 | Fill out your Goals&Effort Excel spreadsheet. |
